Mr Ramautar, owner of Hammam, Oosters Badhuis, was and is an iconic figure from the historic area of Sparndammerbuurt. “If there was trouble in the neighborhood, first they would call me and then the police”. He recalls the days when the workers’ area would go through a decline and the local public bathhouse would be going from bad to worse. He took over the management in the 90’s, making it into a fashionable hammam and beauty spot, with a very relaxed and open for everyone mentality. He gave us a beautiful recollection of his fond, sometimes difficult experiences.
